Project description
STRENGTHENING ACCESS TO HEALTH AND REDUCING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE FOR MIGRANTS
Mexico has strong social, economic, political and gender inequalities. Its historical, cultural and geopolitical context entails great challenges:
- internal economic migrations and forced displacements due to conflict situations cause situations of extreme poverty and vulnerability where people do not have access to decent living conditions.
- the increase in the number of armed conflicts due to widespread political violence, corruption and state-specific challenges create an unstable and uncertain environment
Mexico is also a country of origin, return, transit and destination for international migration and is one of the main international migration corridors. On Mexico's southern border, the states of Chiapas and Tabasco are the main entry points for people on the move.
In recent years, asylum and refugee applications have increased considerably. Migrants present great vulnerability on the migration routes, with a high incidence of sexual violence, in addition to a lack of attention to mental and physical health.
