Scores of people around the world are being arbitrarily detained or fearing for their lives because of their gender, religion, sexual orientation or opinion. people or Communities that work to uphold human rights face additional threats – they face threats, are abducted, imprisoned without a fair trial, or even murdered. In these cases, Amnesty International's Human Rights Relief program offers fast, discreet and non-bureaucratic support for survivors of human rights violations, their families and for individuals and organizations working for human rights.
Why is?
Protecting and supporting individuals and groups whose rights are being violated is at the heart of Amnesty International's work. This commitment is reflected in the "Human Rights Relief" program: The program allows us to react in the shortest possible time and to alleviate the immediate consequences of human rights violations. In many regions of the world, people active in politics, civil society, speaking out against abuse and fighting for the rights of others are harassed, persecuted, arbitrarily detained, or subjected to violence. In these situations, the "Human Rights Relief" program provides quick and unbureaucratic help for people who - often because of their commitment - seriously endangered or wrongly convicted. So that they are protected and can live a life of dignity.
What are we doing?
Through global research and campaigning, Amnesty International comes into direct contact with individuals and groups whose rights are being violated. In sensitive situations, the "Human Rights Relief" program offers targeted financial support for protective measures for people at risk or for bridging assistance for an organization. Depending on your needs, support includes the following services:
- Protection and rehabilitation measures
- Temporary resettlement
- Medical and psychological support
- Legal aid and safe access to justice
- Forensic examinations
- Educational and awareness-raising measures
