Anschubfinanzierung für das Mundartliteraturarchiv
Brief portrait of the organization
The dialect forum is an association with the purpose of promoting the knowledge, the care, the reputation and the use of the Swiss-German dialects. The association operates the web platform mundartforum.ch, maintains a language office as an information and advice service for dialect issues, looks after the dialect literature archive, organizes dialect events, works with other culturally, linguistically and educationally oriented institutions and publishes a newsletter and its own series of books on Swiss German .
The dialect forum has built up an archive of dialect literature over many years. There are currently around 1700 titles, mainly from the area of German-speaking Swiss dialect literature. In addition to "classics" such as the writings of Rudolf von Tavels or Simon Gfeller, it also contains many works by lesser-known dialect authors. To a lesser extent, the archive also includes linguistic (dialectological) works such as dictionaries and grammars on Swiss German. By collecting and cataloging these titles, we are helping to preserve Switzerland's intangible cultural assets. The archive has meanwhile been looked after by the Zurich section, the “Züritüütsch” association, on behalf of the dialect forum. However, since there was no suitable room, the collection was stored for years in a school building in an unfavorable location, where it was difficult to access to the public. Since autumn 2020 the archive has been back in the care of the “dialect forum” and is currently being kept in a room specially rented for this purpose in the historic “Altwyberhüsli” in Solothurn. The new location allows future attractive presentation of the books, increased use by interested private individuals and researchers and also makes smaller public events such as readings possible.
